For the update of the Water and Wastewater Master Plan, the Region of York has developed water and wastewater Sustainability Principles which will help guide servicing for sustainability.

Does York Region have a comprehensive Water & Wastewater Sustainability Strategy?

The final version of the Water and Wastewater Sustainability Strategy has been approved by Regional Council. The document incorporates input from consultation with the public and other stakeholders. 

Specific components of the Water and Wastewater Sustainability Strategy are intended to assure that the Region’s water and wastewater works and services meet “the need of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs”. Over 40 actions are identified in the Strategy, and these range from ensuring that water supplied from surface and groundwater sources will be within safe yield limits, through minimizing service disruptions, to optimizing energy use.
